Class Philosophy

I strive to build classes that are more than teaching SAT. I want to build confidence and community. Classes are extremely interactive and encourage students to participate in the learning actively. I don't teach from a book but rather practice tests. So each class we are taking a test and reviewing it, reviewing strategies as we look at real questions on Blue Book. Students are more engaged because they WANT to know why they missed certain questions and are seeking strategies to get them right on the next test.

During breaks, I provide snacks and foster conversation. Many students have friends in the class because I mainly serve North Austin high schools. These breaks aren't lost learning time. The community building is essential to creating a safe space for learning. When teens feel supported and known, they learn better.

While I structure each class to be stand alone, as we take a test and review strategies every class, I see the biggest score improvements when students attend more classes. The SAT is a challenging test and practice makes more and more perfect. It is not uncommon for students with me over the long haul to surpass the 1400 or even 1500 score threshold, gaining 200 - 300 points in improvement. Good instruction + continued practice = a great score!
